Student Accommodation Development, Glasgow
MultiBal supplied aluminium balustrades and Streamline recess-fit balconies for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s new student accommodation development in Glasgow.
The £35million project on Dunblane Street includes 250 units, a mixture of en-suite shared flats and studio apartments, with most featuring a balcony.
The development also includes two roof terraces, a sky lounge and a small retail outlet, as well as amenities including music practice rooms, a dance studio, gym, cinema room and study halls.
Not just an aesthetic and fuctional addition to the project, our products' problem solving capabilities were taken full advantage of. We worked with the contractor, installer and glazing supplier to provide a fully engineered factory installed connection directly in to the window mullion, without cold bridging.
MultiBal’s products were specified for their combination of ease of installation and aesthetic appeal, which matched the high standards set by the project architect Mosaic Architecture and Design for the building’s exterior.
The main contractor for the project was Graham Construction, while the balconies and balustrades were installed by Briggs Handrail Systems.
David Wilson, Contracts Manager at Briggs, said he was “delighted” by the way MultiBal products worked for the project and that he was “very surprised by how light the balconies were”.
The fact that our balconies are just half the weight of equivalent steel products and a third of the weight of glass products, has great benefits on site, as it means lifting them into place is easier and manual handling is much safer.
