MultiBal FAQs

What colours are MultiBal products available in?

We can supply your balconies and balustrades in almost any RAL Colour, with various grades of gloss / matte finish available.

Where are MultiBal products made?

Our aluminium profiles are extruded in the UK, meaning shorter lead times and improved quality control. Every phase of the process from design to manufacture and assembly, is controlled in factory conditions.

Do MultiBal balconies meet the standards required for use in UK construction projects?

Yes, our balconies were designed to conform to BS6399 pt1 and NHBC Guidelines.

How do MultiBal products achieve such high levels of corrosion resistance?

MultiBal aluminium balconies and balustrades have been developed to ensure they do not suffer the same kind of corrosion as painted galvanised steel equivalents or tarnishing as stainless steel products.

Our product range has developed out of Alphastrut, which was originally designed for use on North Sea oil & gas platforms and has completed the 2,000-hour salt spray test.

Even in a non-painted state, aluminium has a high affinity for oxygen and the oxide layer provides a self healing, natural corrosion resistance. MultiBal products have the added protection of being painted by AkzoNobel approved painters, giving them a life expectancy of more than 25 years.

How does the use of aluminium affect the strength of MultiBal products?

MultiBal products have been designed to give an equivalent load performance to steel.

Aluminium is half the weight of steel, but a like-for-like profile only carries 30% of the load. However, all components in MultiBal products have been designed to give an equivalent load performance, while maintaining the weight advantage.

How does the weight of MultiBal balconies compare to glass equivalents?

MultiBal Juliet balconies are less than one-third of the weight of 10mm glass balconies and less than a quarter of the weight of 15mm glass balconies.

How does the weight of MultiBal balconies compare to steel equivalents?

MultiBal Juliet balconies are less than half the weight of steel equivalents, despite having the same load performance.

How does choosing MultiBal construction products improve site health & safety?

Our products can be supplied ready assembled, with no requirement for welding / hot works for installation, removing the need for permits and reducing fire risk.

As MultiBal products are made from aluminium they are significantly lighter than steel or glass alternatives, reducing the risk of injury from manual handling.

The alloys used in aluminium construction products have a low Magnesium content, so do not contribute to the spread of fire.

Do MultiBal products contain recycled materials?

Yes, the aluminium used in our products contains a large proportion of recycled materials.

Aluminium is easy to recycle due to its relatively low melting point of 660°C, which means producing aluminium from recycled materials uses only 5% of the energy used in making aluminium from Bauxite. As a result, around 75% of each tonne of aluminium in circulation today is made from recycled materials.

Can MultiBal products be recycled?

MultiBal construction products are made of aluminium, so can be recycled at the end of their life. Aluminium’s relatively low melting point of 660°C makes it easy to recycle and most aluminium products contain at least 75% recycled materials.

Which facade types can MultiBal balconies work with?

The fixing system for MultiBal is designed to work with almost any facade type, including brickwork, concrete, timber and tiles. The fixings are adjustable, so can cope with retrofit projects involving uneven surfaces.
